SHIKIGU

Shiki-gu = Paper-Tools

Taisei Shiki Mfg./SIKIGU (“Shiki-gu” translates to ‘Paper-Tools’ in Japanese) is a brand that designs products made from paper.

“Shiki-gu” considers paper as a part of our daily lives, reframes its core values as “deliver, contain, install”, and create a new daily necessity.

Founded in 1919, we are based in Osaka where we have a network of printing and processing technologies. Our goal is to create a new culture of paper consumption.

SIKIGU: Paper Reimagined as a Tool / A century of craft, a new way of thinking.

Taisei Shiki Mfg., based in Osaka, traces its roots to 1919. In 2017, the company relaunched under its original name with a fresh concept: SIKIGU (紙器具, meaning "paper tools"). Rather than treating paper as something disposable, they elevate it into beautifully crafted everyday objects — trays, boxes, notebooks, clocks — built on over a century of paperboard printing and forming expertise.

Traditional Techniques, Modern Products / Each piece showcases a different paper craft.

Every SIKIGU product draws on a specialist technique. PANORAMA NOTE uses traditional goshuincho (temple stamp book) bookbinding — each page hand-pasted with a brush. PLEATS TRAY and ZIGZAG BOX exploit advanced paperboard folding. SHIKI CLOCK is shaped through pulp moulding. The result: stationery and homeware that feels unlike anything else, with a warmth and texture only paper can offer.

Recognised on the World Stage / Japanese paper craft meets contemporary design.

SIKIGU has been exhibited at Maison & Objet, one of Europe's most prestigious design and lifestyle fairs. With creative direction by the acclaimed Japanese design studio UMA/design farm, these products sit at the intersection of fine craft and contemporary design.
